Turner Music & Events "All Things Spoken" presents ...

Carter’s Comedy at Kennedy’s
Saturday Feb 13th, 2010
Kennedy’s Pub 11906 88th Ave Delta, BC
9:00 pm Free!
With Special Guests

Come laugh with the carefully calculated satirical social commentary brought to you by some of the west coast’s best stand up comics.

Carter’s first interest in stand-up comedy was as a young boy when he would sneak out of his room to watch Johnny Carson after the family had gone to bed. Now he is the highly talented comedian, who can take hold of the entire audience in the first minute, and have them in the palm of his hand for the whole act.

In the summer of 1992 he walked on to a comedy stage and hasn't looked back. He has shared the stage with such legendary performers as Bob Saget, Dave Chappelle, Tommy Chong, Robin Williams, Ric Overton, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Brent Butt, Patton Oswald and Gilbert Gottfried.

Carter is a unique and successful comedian well practiced in the art of satirical social commentary and delivers it with passion and commitment. He has toured extensively through North America performing in festivals, clubs and for an array corporate and charity events.

Mike LeDonne is an exceptional pianist and organist who has won praise not only from critics but from master musicians: the late Oscar Peterson picked him as one of his favorite pianists of today.  In 1988 LeDonne joined the Milt Jackson Quartet, spending 11 incredible years working with the vibraphone master and eventually becoming music director for the group. LeDonne first took up the organ at age 10 and when he was 14, his father bought him his first Hammond B-3, an instrument that he says “has the soul built right in.” In 2000 he sat in on a tribute concert at Smoke to “The Mighty Burner”—the late organ legend Charles Earland. It went so well that club owner Paul Stache scheduled Mike for a five-week Tuesday night run, and he’s been there ever since.

At the Cellar Restaurant, LeDonne plays for two nights only, joined by an incredible cast of Vancouver musicians including Cory Weeds on tenor sax, Oliver Gannon on guitar, and Jesse Cahill on drums. These musicians are some of Vancouver’s, if not Canada’s, finest.

"It turns out that LeDonne has another persona: a not-so-civilized, sometimes downright nasty, even more likable exponent of the Hammond B3."
Thomas Conrad - JazzTimes

Feb 11 -
Double Bill featuring two of Vancouvers amazing Singers/Songwriters
               TÉA -
Winner of the 2008 International Songwriting Competition
Alexandria Maillot - R&B, Funk and Soul Sensation. Brilliant Singer/Songwriter

Mar 18 - Ivan E. Coyote with special guest Rodney Decroo

Ivan is good old-fashioned kitchen table stories. Imagine you are drinking black tea with canned milk, and it is snowing outside. The kitchen smells like homemade soup, and you don't have to work tomorrow so you can sit up all night talking and smoking cigarettes. Or maybe it is a warm night in the middle of July, and you are sitting on a wool blanket in the sand, resting your back against a big-beached log. The lake is smooth as glass and there is plenty of wood for the campfire. Someone is talking, telling you a story…

Ivan is an award-winning author of five collections of short stories, one novel, two CD’s, four short films and a renowned performer, Ivan’s first love is live storytelling, and over the last thirteen years she has become an audience favourite at music, poetry, spoken word and writer's festivals from Anchorage to Amsterdam.

“Ivan has a distinctive and persuasive voice, a flawless sense of pacing, and an impeccable sense of story.”
– Quill’s Magazine

Rodney’s songwriting sits in the manful, quasi-roots territory inhabited by Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle, and John Prine. A guy can disappear inside those long shadows.

"Mockingbird Bible is a soulful, quiet and absolutely brilliant collection of songs from one of Canada's premier musical talents. Decroo has yet again proven himself to be one of the country's best songwriters."
- 24 Hours
