With an inventive style that is forging its own path, Brett Martin’s comedy is a refreshing take on Stand Up Comedy. Brett’s comedy is straight from the heart and mind of a man who fits seamlessly on the outer limits of life. With an almost confessional style and jokes that can come dangerously close to the edge, Brett Martin’s comedy leaves you laughing and thinking at the same time. His resume includes regular play on XM Satellite Radio ‘Laff Attack’ and ‘The Comedy Store’ in London, England. He has also headlined countless comedy clubs, colleges and festivals. Blessed with a spirit akin to Hunter S. Thompson, the sex appeal of Neil Young and a mind gone wild, Brett Martin will be a fixture in Stand up Comedy for some time.
He began stand-up comedy in 1999, the year before the future. Wandering the comedy stages, he learned the craft successfully through the art of failure. In his early years, highlights included being a finalist in the search for Alberta’ funniest comic, as well as champion of other local contests. In 2004, Brett was invited back to perform at the Comedy Store in London, England. In 2006, he was selected as one of the top comics in Montreal for a Live Satellite Radio Taping.
Carefully traversing the line between edgy and over the edge, Brett takes a unique look at society and turns it on its head. No topics are taboo but those used in his jokes are handled just so – like those half compliments that are also half insults. You never really know if he’s coming or going. He likes to challenge the audience, but never to sword fights. When the audience figures out whether to furrow their brows or laugh out loud it’s already too late, they’ve already strapped into the rollercoaster that is Brett Martin.
He is quickly becoming one of Canada’s funniest Stand Up Comics. Today you can hear him on XM Satellite Radio’s ‘Laugh Attack” or catch him live headlining various comedy clubs, private shows, and theatres in Canada and beyond.
“Brett Martin is a stand-up comedian in every sense of the word. Equal parts philosopher, cynic and just plain funny, Martin is a comedian for the skeptic, thinker, and laugher in all of us.”
